Mission and Philosophy

The mission of the Community Working Group is to serve the needs of the homeless and those at-risk of becoming homeless in the Midpeninsula area (Palo Alto, East Palo Alto and Menlo Park) through the development and operation of housing and services, and through strategic alliances with community partners who are likewise committed to the promotion of human dignity.

We believe that homelessness and poverty affect our whole community. They are problems over which we often feel confused as to how to respond with compassion and common sense. We believe that, as part of a coordinated regional effort, the Opportunity Center and other affordable housing projects represent a response to homelessness and poverty by our whole community. If we are successful, this response will not only serve the needs of unhoused and at-risk persons, but the entire community as well.
