801 Alma Street Family Housing

Location

801 Alma Street will enable the server at a local café to live within easy walking distance of her job, as well as parks, groceries, schools, stores, medical services and other downtown amenities.

Site selection for 801 Alma Street was a collaborative effort between Eden Housing and the Community Working Group, who worked with the City of Palo Alto. All saw the selected location as ideal, as it is near Palo Alto's central University Avenue commercial district and very close to amenities and services that families need.

The city land for 801 Alma Street was acquired through a purchase of a former auto repair shop and a city land donation of a former electrical power station. The map below shows that most necessary services lie within a mile of the building, and many amenities exist within a quarter mile, including grocery and drug stores, a library, a major medical clinic, parks, schools, a bank, a hardware store, and all the services in two shopping malls and the University Avenue commercial district. An added benefit is Palo Alto's multi-modal transit center, which is just two blocks away.
